Went an Activity Conference on Sunday - had a great time - Alan Hinks was the keynote Speaker - fantastic - not a Mountain Climber my self - just a Hill Walker - but he was on top form.
A good number of people at the event - but the not as many as there could have been.
Want to get out Canoeing - but too ill currently - whats the betting that when the I am better the weather - will be rubbish !

View from the back
Well visited an Explorer Unit the other Night, arrived the place was buzzing. The week before they had been out Orienteering to gain point for Food.
This week using the food they had gained they had to produce a 3 course meal on two burners !
Well I love food and was pleased to be invited to invited to join them, the food was first class ! they even had a cheese board (my personal favorite).
The leaders were very welcoming as were the Young People.
The First of many to visit. Hope they are all this good.

What form where ?
Here we go ! I have been told that in order to take Young People (explorer scouts) out I need to submit an AAN form. However having spent hours searching for one I find that they have not even produced yet!
Ok so this is only a local form, so I submit details of my event to the DC who asks why I did not use the form - ! Told him its had not been produced yet ! he say make sure I use it Next time - next time has just arrived no form !
And they wonder why they find it difficult to find leaders ?

A book to Read
I picked up a book to read on the Train today. It was toast by Nigel Slater. It was so good I could not help but laugh out loud.
The book at times was partly cringing - but I could not put it down. It was just what I needed a good Laugh !
do they still make Arctic Roll ?

From IT to Youth Work
Finally my start date arrived, after 20 years in IT, I have moved in to paid Youth Work. I say paid, because I have been doing Youth Work, or better still "working with young people" since 1980.
Some people think I gone mad! but in my middle 40s, I lelt that It was now or never.
So had I got feed up with Unix or Oracle? well the answer is no! my main problem came when I asked who benefit from my work in five years time, I was not sure who would.
Well so far my brain has turned to mush ! The People I have met have been brillant, both young and not so young.
